”Mismatch” is a project that reflects on how female bodies are represented in their daily lives, using underwear
to challenge societal expectations of sexualisation and perfection. The project explores the notion that
underwear, while typically invisible, becomes sexualised the moment it is seen. I wanted to break down this
perception and highlight the normalcy of these intimate garments in everyday life.
For this purpose, I collected and scanned second-hand bras and panties, capturing their wear, imperfections, and
the stories they tell about real women. The use of second-hand pieces adds to the diversity of representation,
showing underwear that has been worn, aged, and lived in, far from the idealised, flawless image often portrayed
in media.
The final outcome is this unbound booklet, with each page featuring either a bra or panties. The booklet remains
unbound to allow the pages to be viewed individually, reminiscent of posters. When viewed together, mismatched
sets appear, reflecting how women often wear uncoordinated pieces, embracing authenticity over perfection. This
minimal but powerful format allows the viewer to see these garments for what they truly are: part of everyday
life, not objects of sexualisation.
